When a woman goes for help, her doctor might not recognize her problem and prescribe tranquilizers. Women drinkers are usually secretive and drink mostly in private. Between 30 and 50 percent of women alcoholics have been sexually abused as children or adults.
Safe Drinking Guidelines: The New0-3-4-12 Rule
On some days, no drinks, on any day, a woman should have no more than 3 drinks and a man no more than 4 drinks; with no one consuming more than 12 drinks a week. Problem drinkers outnumber alcoholic drinkers four to one and would benefit greatly from cutting down on drinking.
Alcoholics Anonymous has a well known twelve step programme and support system, which is widely available. Check your phone book for the group nearest you.

All heavy and moderate drinkers should be taking the B vitamins, Vitamin-C and a good multi-mineral and Vitamin daily. Coming off alcohol, it is important to avoid caffeine, sugar, and refined food and to continue the vitamins. Acupuncture and massage may also help.
